RECOMENDACIÓN: MARIE ANTOINETTE POR SOFIA COPPOLA

¡HOLA A TODOS Y BIENVENIDOS!

Conocida en Latinoamérica como “María Antonieta la reina adolescente” es una película de época de 2006 dirigida por Sofia Coppola y protagonizada por Kirsten Dunst. Esta película ha sido una fuerte inspiración para mis ilustraciones, desde que la vi, por primera vez. Ya que es una película que rompe con los esquemas del género “drama histórico” debido a que la historia si trata sobre un personaje real, pero no está basada en lo que la historia siempre nos cuenta sobre la última reina de Francia. Por el contrario la directora quiso basarse en lo que pudo haber sido María Antonieta a nivel personal y emocional. Relatando la historia de una adolescente que es despojada de todo lo que alguna vez fue y obligada a encajar en una corte extraña, fría y falsa. La Directora se tomó absoluta libertad hasta en la selección musical ya que ni siquiera la banda sonora de esta película está relacionada con la música barroca del siglo XVIII. Pienso que fue un toque demasiado original y fresco la utilización de música contemporánea en el filme.

He visto esta película como 100 veces y es debido a que es una obra total de delicadeza y buen gusto. Siempre he tenido como gran inspiración a María Antonieta a la hora de ilustrar, y esta película refuerza eso, gracias a ese personaje interpretado por Dunst que me resulta carismático, sensual, alocado, pero divertido y obviamente las réplicas hechas de esos vestidos de altísima costura que eran usados por la reina. Es imposible que al momento de ilustrar algo que está inspirado en la monarquía francesa no veas los colores pasteles, las caras pálidas con pómulos exagerados de color rosa y claro Versalles con sus impresionantes acabados y jardines hermosos. Para estas ilustraciones sin duda me inspiró el espíritu rebelde de María Antonieta, quien para mí, pudo haber sido una mujer adelantada a su época, sin miedo a expresarse y decir lo que pensaba aunque fuera tachada de indolente, cruel y materialista. La imagino usando prendas modernas y rompiendo esquemas con Balenciaga, contrastando con su estética, delicada y absolutamente femenina.

Known in Latin America as "Marie Antoinette the Teen Queen" is a 2006 period film directed by Sofia Coppola and starring Kirsten Dunst. This film has been a strong inspiration to my illustrations since I first saw it. Since it is a film that breaks with the schemes of the genre "historical drama" because the story is about a real character, but it is not based on what the story always tells us about the last queen of France. On the contrary, the director wanted to based on what Marie Antoinette might have been on a personal and emotional level. Telling the story of a teenage girl who is stripped of everything she ever was and forced to fit into a strange, cold, fake court. The Director took absolute liberty even in the musical selection since the soundtrack of this film is related to the baroque music of the eighteenth century. I think that the use of contemporary music in the film was too original and fresh.

I’ve watched this movie like 100 times and it’s because it’s a total work of delicacy and good taste. I’ve always been inspired by Marie Antoinette to illustrate, and this film reinforces that, thanks to that character played by Dunst who I find charismatic, sensual, crazy, but funny and obviously the replicas made of those oversized couture dresses that were worn by the queen. It is impossible that at the moment of illustrating something that is inspired by the French monarchy do not see the pastel colors, the pale faces with exaggerated cheekbones of pink and light Versailles with their stunning finishes and beautiful gardens. For these illustrations I was certainly inspired by the rebellious spirit of Marie Antoinette, who for me could have been an advanced woman to her time, not afraid to express herself and say what she thought even though she was branded as indolent, cruel and materialistic. I imagine her wearing modern clothes and breaking schemes with Balenciaga, contrasting with her aesthetic, delicate and absolutely feminine.
